NOW OPEN: Fast Casual Eatery “Pie Pie Pie” in South Redondo

PIE PIE PIE! Sweet pies, savory pies, and even pizza pies are now freshly made and available for sale in one South Bay location. Check out Pie Pie Pie, a new fast-casual eatery that quietly opened its doors in South Redondo a few weeks ago at Torrance Blvd. and Camino Real (it occupies the space of the now-closed pizzeria, The Slice).

Don’t let its storefront location in a nondescript strip mall fool you — the savory pies, in particular, are top notch. I tasted the pumpkin pie, which is more savory than sweet (my preference) as well as the pecan pie, which is also not overly sweet. Both are excellent, but if forced to make a choice, I would more highly recommend the savory pie selections as I prefer the crust on those over the one used for the sweet pies.

Pie Pie Pie also serves Korean-style chicken wings, which are slightly sweet, not hot, and seasoned with sesame seeds. In addition, they offer a nice selection of New York-style, thin-crust pizzas (cheese, pepperoni, buffalo chicken, veggie and more), along with pasta, salads, and subs, the latter three of which I haven’t tried as of yet.

All of the yummy crusty creations at Pie Pie Pie are handmade by pastry chef Euni Kim (who trained at New York’s French Culinary Institute and worked at several New York restaurants like Battery Gardens and River Cafe). Her husband Kyoung Kang, who works in finance, runs the business side of making pies (and more). The business partners — who are also married — have lived in the neighborhood since 2011.

Call TODAY to order your holiday pies! Seasonal sweet pie selections currently include apple, pecan, and pumpkin. Order your Thanksgiving pies by 9:00pm on Monday, November 23! Note that Pie Pie Pie is always closed on Tuesdays.

Open every day except Tuesdays at 11:30am to 9:00pm – pick up, eat in, or order for delivery ($20 minimum). Free onsite parking. NOTE: I recommend taking your pies “to go” and reheating them at home for lunch or dinner since the place is small (only three tables and four bar chairs) plus the ambiance of the space is not in line with the excellence of my favorite — the savory pies!

EXHIBIT: South Bay Muse Snapshots at GUS Gallery

For those of you who follow my work online, you know that I take photographs of scenes from ordinary life as I walk my dogs early each morning wherever I am. For the past year, I’ve split my time between Redondo Beach and the Arts District in Downtown Los Angeles (for the latter, I share images as @DowntownMuse). It’s been an amazing experience — both communities share some things in common and in more ways than the 20 miles that separate them, they are miles apart. However, just like the Arts District, I have found a community of artists and a place that inspires me every day.

I never imagined how my photography would be in the South Bay until I arrived. Like my work in Downtown Los Angeles, I still shoot as I maneuver my two rambunctious dogs in meandering ways along the streets where I live and work. I shoot the “ordinary” — the commonplace things that attract my attention as I’m walking. I never intend to shoot; i.e., I don’t go out with the goal of photographing. It just happens. Out of the many I take each day, I only share a couple online through my social channels on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook in my online persona as @SouthBayMuse.

Opening on Saturday, November 21, 2015 @ 4-8pm, my photography exhibition “SOUTH BAY MUSE: Snapshots of the South Bay by Melissa Richardson Banks” is on view in Redondo Beach through Thursday, December 31, 2015 in GUS Gallery at GUS Vintage Goods. Located in Riviera Village, the store opened at its location of 209 Avenue I, Redondo Beach, CA 90277 in August 2014.
